We’ve gone from denunciation to toasts and finger guns across the dinner table in less than a week. If you’re getting dizzy trying to keep up with the state of Canada-U.S. relations, you’re not alone.

Last Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he was cutting off trade talks with Canada over an ad that he had said he would have run himself just two days earlier. Then the two met across the table in Korea, exchanged pleasantries, a toast and some playful gestures.

There was a real firestorm of Canada-U.S. relations over the weekend, though, as people battled it out over the ad. Trump claimed it was fake, claimed it must have been made with artificial intelligence and that it made Ronald Reagan say things he didn’t believe.
