MINOT, ND (KXNET) — With the ongoing government shutdown, food pantries across the state are seeing more people each week. The parking lot of the Lord's Cupboard in Minot was full on Wednesday with people looking for help.
According to the North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services, SNAP benefits will be paused on November 1st, if the shutdown continues.
Leaders at the pantry said they've already seen about a 25% increase of people utilizing their services so far, which means they need to go about things a little differently.
"We're requiring the people today to bring in a bag or a box when they come and that's what they'll take out with their groceries, so we hope that works for all," said Gerald Roise, chairman of the board for the pantry. "It's a way of not having us run ar
