A new ride-hailing service, backed by the Central government, named ‘Sahkar Taxi,’ is ready to take on private companies like Ola and Uber. It will be first launched in Delhi next month. After a collaboration of the Ministry of Cooperation with the National e-Governance Division (NeGD), the new service has been established as a multi-state cooperative society named Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Ltd. with an initial capital of ₹300 crore.

The promoter side features prominent cooperative-based institutions such as Amul, IFFCO (fertiliser), NAFED (agriculture marketing), NABARD, Krishak Bharati Cooperative Ltd. (KRIBHCO), and the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC).
