Tavin Timperley of Prairie and Carmen Herrera of Heritage claimed the top spots in the 3A District 4 cross country championships on Wednesday in Kelso.

Timperley, a sophomore, dominated the boys races, winning by more than 30 seconds by covering the 2.95-mile course in 15 minutes, 18 seconds.

Timperley led a Prairie sweep of the first three places and six of the top seven places as the Falcons ran away with team title by outdistancing second-place Kelso 17-47. Both teams will advance to the 3A state meet on Nov. 8 in Pasco.

Prairie’s Ethan McKell (16:02) was second and Shackleton Hoyt (16:16) was third.

Herrera, a senior, outdistanced Chloe Copes of Prairie to win the girls race in 19:11. Copes was second in 19:30.
