Synopsis

The Smashing Machine tells the true story of MMA fighter Mark Kerr ( Dwayne Johnson ) during the late 1990’s and early 2000’s. As Mark pushes himself to his limits to be the champion and bring MMA to the mainstream, he becomes addicted to opioids and steroids. His addiction complicates the relationship with his girlfriend Dawn Staples ( Emily Blunt ), who is damaged and unstable in her own way.

My thoughts

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has built up an entire reputation of being a hardworking man who’s constantly pushed himself to become as massive (literally and figuratively) as he is today. The man always seems to be striving for greatness, so it’s strange that he’s limited himself so much as an actor. D
