Alaska Airlines has been grappling with recent IT outages. After an incident occurred in July and a second last week, a third IT outage disrupted software used by customers on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, as per the Anchorage Daily News. The carrier has deployed backup systems to ensure that passengers can make bookings and check in for flights while its IT team works to resolve the software issues.
With this being the third major IT outage this year, it's estimated that Alaska Airlines may have incurred a cost of well over $40 million. IT outages are a relatively rare but extremely disruptive occurrence, and airlines place heavy emphasis on remedying these incidents as soon as they occur.
