BELCOURT, N.D. (KMOT) – The Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa released its emergency plan to help with critical support during the shutdown.
According to Chairman Jamie Azure, the tribal council voted unanimously this week to allocate funds to service programs disrupted by the shutdown.
Azure signed the plan into law Wednesday afternoon.
The plan helps support major programs, including LIHEAP, ahead of the winter.
The chairman noted most of the programs receiving support already exist. The only new process involved Tribal SNAP. Azure said their service area includes just over 4,100 members who rely on SNAP.
Azure indicated the tribe will work with local schools, including Turtle Mountain College, to provide for those at greatest risk during the shutdown.
