CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - For 40 million Americans, the concern is growing. The Department of Agriculture says money for the SNAP food assistance program runs out Saturday.
Food banks across the nation are bracing to no longer have federal funding. The food pantry at May Dugan Center which partners with the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, gave out over 1,000 food bags today and is preparing for even more people when SNAP benefits run out.
One in eight Americans relies on SNAP benefits
One in eight Americans receives SNAP benefits, and despite misconceptions, many are working families or seniors who are having trouble putting food on the table. With the government shutdown and SNAP benefits running out Saturday, many will be desperately looking for help.
