EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - State representative Alex Burton hosted a town hall meeting in Evansville alongside former U.S. senator Joe Donnelly to discuss Governor Mike Braun’s call to redraw the state’s congressional boundaries.
“Who we are is an independent state that fiercely guards that independence,” Donnelly said. “And we want to make our own decisions. We don’t want it dictated to us by Washington, telling our governor and our legislature how we should have congressional districts.”
Right now, there are nine congressional districts in Indiana, with seven represented by Republican lawmakers and two by Democrats.
If Braun’s redistricting efforts are successful, all nine could be represented by republicans.
Typically, states redraw boundaries of congressional districts every 10 year
