RADCLIFF, Ky. — The food pantry at Saint Christopher Parish in Radcliff, Kentucky, is evidence of the chain reaction from the federal government shutdown, now approaching one month.
At its monthly giveaway this past Monday, the parish served 120 families, a sizable uptick from 91 in June.
"It's been growing," said parish secretary Kathy Jordan. "Bigger need than we thought."
Staple foods like bread and pasta are in high demand as families prepare for life without SNAP benefits starting Nov. 1, with federal funding set to lapse amid the government shutdown.
