New Delhi: The Modi government has approved the formation of the 8th Pay Commission . The Commission’s recommendations will impact around 50 lakh (5 million) central government employees, including those from the defence services , and benefit nearly 69 lakh (6.9 million) pensioners, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said. It is important to note that the Commission has been given 18 months to submit its recommendations, and the changes are expected to take effect from January 1, 2026. The government has appointed several key members to determine how much the salaries should be increased.
