COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - The death toll continues to rise in the Caribbean as Hurricane Melissa swept through the region.
It made landfall in Jamaica on Tuesday as a Category 5 storm with winds as high as 185 mph, making it one of the largest Atlantic hurricanes on record.
As of Wednesday night, the Associated Press reported that at least eight people have died on the island. Leaders said the storm knocked out power to 73 percent of the island, leaving more than 600,000 people without electricity, while leaving widespread devastation to infrastructure.
Not has the storm caused devastation on the island, but it has also to Jamaicans who live in the Pikes Peak region.
