BAY VILLAGE, Ohio — The Bay High School boys soccer team is on a mission — and it's about much more than just winning.
After a heartbreaking loss last season ended a 13-year streak of district championships, the team came back this year undefeated in conference play, reclaiming their district title and earning a spot in the regional finals.
But this season has carried a deeper purpose: honoring their late teammate, Dylan Veselic.
Dylan, who died after suffering a head injury during a Bay lacrosse game in the spring, is never far from the team's thoughts. Every player wears his birthstone color — yellow — across their backs during warmups, with his No. 6 displayed on their jerseys. Before each game, the team leaves an open spot in their pregame huddle to honor him.
