A post office in Sydney's lower north shore has been saved after an outcry from the local community.

Milsons Point Post Office was scheduled to close its doors on November 12 after the long-term lease ended but a people-power campaign was launched in a bid to reverse the decision.

The branch serviced hundreds of community members in the suburb of just over 2500 people.

Shop owner Venietta Slama-Powell, who led the campaign with a petition, said the community was "absolutely elated" with the news the post office would remain open.

"This has been a huge campaign from the local community, we've been unrelentingly fighting for this outcome and hundreds of people have contributed to its success," Slama-Powell told Nine radio station 2GB.
