Malawian musician Lawrence Khwisa popularly known as Lulu, has kicked off a fundraising drive to support legendary artist Sir Paul Banda, donating K1 million himself and urging fellow musicians to join the effort.

“The word is love,” Lulu said on Facebook, explaining that he wants to inspire others to help Banda, who has been battling kidney-related illness for four years.

Following his lead, Gwamba contributed K1 million and Emmie Deebo donated K200,000, with hopes that the total could reach K10 million to cover Banda’s medical expenses.

Banda, currently receiving treatment at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre, visits the hospital twice a week for dialysis. He had also been promised specialized treatment in India last year, but that plan has yet to materialize.
