Alexander Zverev came through a gruelling three-set battle on Wednesday to move forward at the Paris Masters.
The German, fresh off a final appearance at the Vienna Open, got past world number 49 Camilo Ugo Carabelli 6-7, 6-1, 7-5. It was a hard-fought win for Zverev, who had to dig deep in the final set after falling behind against the Argentine.
Though much of his year has lacked consistency, Zverev’s recent form suggests he’s finally settled into rhythm as the ATP season winds down.
Still, he’ll be aware of how close this match was and will need to tighten up if he wants to avoid more early scares in Paris.
