GREENVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) – As Halloween approaches, health experts are warning about the risks of sugar overconsumption, which can lead to 'sugar shock.'
As part of our “Ask the Expert” series, in partnership with Bon Secours St. Francis, 7NEWS spoke with a health expert about 'sugar shock' and when it occurs.
"Sugar shock is really more of a sort of colloquial term that we use to describe when someone just has too much sugar all at once," said Elizabeth Lacy, a primary care nurse practitioner.
Lacy notes that avoiding candy entirely during Halloween can be difficult, but moderation is key to preventing sugar-related health issues.
She advises that women should limit their added sugar intake to around 25 grams per day, while men can consume up to 36-37 grams. For children, the recommend
