The Odisha government has launched a mandatory tree plantation initiative along all newly constructed roads under the Works Department.
This move aims to balance infrastructure growth with environmental protection.
To ensure implementation, the state has allocated 1% of every road construction budget for tree plantation and maintenance. The policy covers national highways, district roads, and other public roads currently under development.
As climate change and pollution continue to pose serious threats, the government has responded with proactive measures. Rapid urbanization and deforestation have worsened environmental conditions, prompting Odisha to integrate afforestation into its infrastructure strategy.
