CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- Interstate 85 is down to one lane southbound following a crash Thursday morning, according to Charlotte Mecklenburg Police.

The incident happened around 6 a.m. on I-85 near Statesville Avenue, the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) reports. It is unclear what led up to the crash or how many vehicles were involved.

The Mecklenburg EMS Agency (Medic) says it took one person to Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center with serious injuries.

The roadway is currently estimated to reopen around 8:15 a.m. Drivers are asked to avoid the area.
