An Alberta college will be doubling down on efforts to prevent hazing among its athletes after being hit with sanctions for traditions that targeted rookie members of its volleyball teams earlier this fall.
“We haven’t spent a lot of time where we specifically speak to hazing in the past," said Alan Rogan, athletic director for Lakeland College. "That’s actually going to be changing moving forward.”
Following a joint investigation by Lakeland College and the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) into complaints about rookie parties involving hazing in September, both the men’s and women’s volleyball teams have been ordered to forfeit the first games of the season, while the school must pay $6,000 in fines.
All members of both teams, including coaches and players, must also take
