DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — Over 1,000 people and schools in north Durham lost power on Thursday after two stolen vehicles crashed into power equipment, police said.
According to the Durham Police Department, officers responded to a report of two stolen vehicles around midnight, which they found crashed near North Roxboro Street and Monk Road near a Circle K gas station.
Officers said the drivers fled on foot, and no arrests have been made.

Duke Energy sent an alert hours later around 6 a.m. Thursday, saying the power was out for at least 1,167 customers. The outage map indicated that the cause was damage to their equipment.
