A local city council incumbent is running to retain his position.

Dakota Bates is the incumbent for Pocatello City Council, Seat Four.

Bates has only been on the city council for five months.

He was appointed in June when he took over for Josh Mansfield.

He says it was always his intention to run if he was appointed.

He doesn't think five months is long enough to be effective and make the changes he wants to see.

He says there are issues that need to be addressed as a city.
