ALBANY, New York (WWNY) - Governor Hochul declares a state of emergency and takes new actions to deal with a November 1st deadline where, she says, 3 million New Yorkers will be stripped of food assistance funding.

It relates to the government shutdown in Washington where funds for the SNAP program, formally known as food stamps, aren’t being released.

Hochul says the federal government is leaving millions of New Yorkers without critical assistance they rely on to feed themselves and their families.

A news release from the Governor’s office states $65 million in new state funds will support food banks, pantries and soup kitchens across the state and will be split in these 2 ways:
