OWENSBORO, Ky. — The Salvation Army in Owensboro is ramping up fundraising and seeking early community support as it prepares for an expected increase in food pantry visits following the expiration of emergency SNAP benefits, its leader said.

Capt. Victor Haworth, corps officer for the local Salvation Army, said the organization already serves about 250 households each week through its food pantry, open Tuesdays and Thursdays. The pantry covers Daviess, Hancock, McLean and Ohio counties.

“We’ve seen a steady increase in people seeking our services, coming to our food pantry, seeking to fill that gap in their household,” Haworth said in an interview. “I expect that to increase yet more as the months come along as SNAP benefits are not available.”
