BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- October is breast cancer awareness month.

For many women, it means much more than just wearing pink.

Especially for lifelong best friends and breast cancer survivors, the 'loud' pink, Brenda Corona and the 'muted' pink, Linda Garza.

Brenda and Linda met in 6th grade at McKee Elementary in southwest Bakersfield. They have stayed friends through marriages, kids, and most recently, breast cancer.

"Everything just changed overnight," Brenda said.

Linda was diagnosed in 2016, one month after giving birth.

"Surviving was for my new daughter," Garza said. "Had I not had her, I don't know if I would've had the same courage or strength to push through something like cancer." Brenda recalls the strength she saw in her friend being a new mom and having to go throug
