CITYWIDE — THE CITY COUNCIL on Wednesday approved a sweeping maternal-health package targeting racial disparities in the city’s maternal mortality rate. Measures in the package include bills that would establish an automated child healthcare text messaging system, expand newborn home visits by specialists, fund free doula services in priority neighborhoods, and launch opioid use disorder education for maternity care professionals, along with a host of items aimed at funding and expanding maternity health care.
