An Oakland County commissioner is asking law enforcement to investigate a now-canceled contract between the county and a firm owned by a county employee.

A spokesperson for the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Michael Spisz, the top Republican on the county board, filed a complaint Wednesday, seeking a formal probe into a $450,000 service contract with an information technology staffing company founded and owned by a member of the county’s IT Department.

An investigation conducted by an outside firm had already concluded the contract approval violated state law. Spisz is calling on the sheriff’s department to investigate that finding and, if substantiated, bring charges against whoever is found in violation.
