Suffolk County Sheriff Steven Tompkins will get his day in court to argue that his federal extortion charges should be dismissed.

Boston federal Judge Myong J. Joun scheduled a hearing for Nov. 18 at 10 a.m. for Tompkins to argue that the two counts of extortion under color of official right, regarding his dealings with a Boston-based cannabis company, be dismissed. Tompkins will also argue to strike two paragraphs of the indictment, which his attorney argues include language related to state ethics laws and not federal laws.
