KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WOWK) - The Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority (KCEAA) is cancelling its contract with Highmark BlueCross BlueShield after failing to agree on a new contract. That contract was aiming to have Highmark reimburse KCEAA for its services.
Starting January 1, 2026, KCEAA will treat people with commercial or self-insured policies through Highmark as though they are uninsured. They will also charge the full cost of providing emergency medical services to them without the discount that they would receive for being insured.
The executive director of KCEAA, Monica Mason said in a statement, "We are sorry that Highmark BlueCross BlueShield doesn’t see the need to support KCEAA’s services adequately. This is not something we want to do. Unfortunately, KCEAA is fighti
