Two people were taken to area hospitals after two Ford SUVs collided head-on Thursday morning, Oct. 30, along Route 8 in Penn Township, police said.

One vehicle was traveling southbound and crossed into the northbound lane after hydroplaning and struck the other vehicle head-on around 9:30 a.m. in the area of 340 Pittsburgh Road, according to Penn Township police Officer Zarnick.

Both drivers were taken to area hospitals with unknown injuries. At least one was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital. Zarnick said a LifeFlight was requested but could not respond due to weather.

Route 8 northbound was closed for a short time.
