Orlando City SC defender Alex Freeman was named the 2025 MLS Young Player of the Year on Thursday.
The 21-year-old right back contributed six goals and three assists in 29 league matches (26 starts) this season.
Freeman’s six goals tied for the most among MLS defenders, while his 42 key passes ranked fourth.
He became the first Orlando player to win the award in its current iteration (since 2020). Cyle Larin was voted the MLS Rookie of the Year in 2015.
The award for players 22 and under (born on or after Jan. 1, 2023) is voted on by MLS club technical staff, media and current MLS players. Fellow finalists Obed Vargas of the Seattle Sounders and Diego Luna of Real Salt Lake finished second and third, respectively.
