A Tasmanian ratepayers association is calling for a major heritage building's multi-million-dollar redevelopment to be audited after receiving reports it has design flaws and some components are "not fit for purpose".

Launceston's Albert Hall, built in 1891, officially reopened last weekend after a $20 million upgrade to its eastern wing.

The project was initially expected to cost $11.6 million in total, but ended up receiving $11 million from the federal government, $8.9 million from the City of Launceston and $60,000 from the Tasmanian government.
