A special Sarnia police unit created in 2022 to focus on those experiencing homelessness, mental health issues and addiction has proven its worth, says Chief Derek Davis.

The integrated mobile police and community team (IMPACT) is made up of three constables and a sergeant who standout from regular patrol officers by the royal blue shirts they wear and a stripe of the same colour on the cruiser in which they travel.

“Had we not had IMPACT over the last few years, I think, as a city, we’d be in big trouble,” Davis said following an update team members delivered Thursday to the city’s police service board.
