CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Farmers say they’re pleased with President Donald Trump’s agricultural trade deal with China’s leader Xi Jinping.
China has agreed to purchase 25 million metric tons of U.S. soybeans annually as part of an agreement reached by its leaders, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Thursday.
As part of the deal, China will purchase 12 million metric tons of soybeans from the U.S. between now and January.
The Iowa Soybean Association (ISA) said the deal is encouraging for Iowa soybean farmers, who rely on open market access to stay competitive.
Tom Adam, President of ISA and a farmer from Harper, said he’s grateful that Trump is prioritizing soybeans in negotiations.
