Smirnov nets two in Legionnaires’ loss
Anton Smirnov scored twice Wednesday in the winless Sarnia Legionnaires’ 6-4 road loss to the London Nationals. Article content Article content Article content
Kael Cooper and Owen Hey also scored as the Legionnaires fell to 0-15-0-0 in the Greater Ontario Hockey League.
Connor Davis made 49 saves in front of 225 at the Western Fair Sports Centre.
The Legionnaires led 1-0 after the first period on Smirnov’s first goal, but the Nationals scored the next four and led by at least two the rest of the way.
Ryan Nichols scored twice and Evan Grant made 33 saves for the Nationals (12-5-0-0), who moved into a three-way tie for the Western Conference lead.
The Legionnaires are already 16 points out of the final playoff spot.
