New parents at the Boekelheide Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Sanford Health in Sioux Falls were surprised Oct. 30 with Halloween costumes for their newborns.
Many of the newborns in the NICU came into the world earlier than expected, so the donations of dozens of costumes made by a class at Lincoln High School helped the families start the new holiday tradition together, in style.
Hannah Swenson, 23, gave birth to her first child, Addison Kae, on Sept. 29 at just 24 weeks into her pregnancy. Addison weighed only 14.1 ounces when she was born.
Swenson said she loves being able to come and visit her new daughter every day at the NICU, and said the costume Addison was given -- a Neapolitan ice cream cone with a cherry on top -- was a “super cute” way to commemorate and celebrate their
