A man serving a lifetime prison sentence after he confessed to killing his parents and their two friends in Maine , and then went on a shooting spree that injured three people , died in a Massachusetts prison Tuesday, officials said.
Joseph Eaton, 36, was being housed at Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center in Lancaster, where staff responded to a medical emergency about 4:15 a.m. Tuesday, according to the state Department of Corrections and the Worcester district attorney’s office.
Eaton was pronounced dead at an area hospital, officials said.
Prison officials said no foul play is suspected. The cause and manner of Eaton’s death will be determined by the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
