After training on the sandy shores of Adelaide, Jack Atkinson's new-found love of running has led him to the streets of Manhattan.

Six months ago, the 28-year-old Wiradjuri, Yorta Yorta and Bangerang man had little to no running experience.

But this weekend, he will be among tens of thousands of runners preparing to tackle the world's largest marathon.

"I think running is the perfect metaphor to life," Mr Atkinson said.

" It's hard but hard times don't last, you just have to put one foot in front of the other and just keep going. "

"I've overcome some stuff in my past like addiction, so I really wanted to set some goals for myself to move forward in life."
