The development of a resort at one of Australia's most popular desert golf courses has hit the rough amid potential legal action and the expenditure of millions of dollars in ratepayer funds.
The Kalgoorlie Golf Course, which was built on the site of an old rubbish tip in the historic mining city, 580km east of Perth, has been the home of the WA PGA Championship since 2012.
Plans for a $22 million, 122-room resort, to be operated by American hotel chain DoubleTree by Hilton, were announced in September 2017.
It was hoped the development would boost regional tourism and reduce hefty losses for the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, which maintains the course. The facility posted a $3.67 million loss for 2024-25 .
But more than eight years since the announcement, construction has not progress
