It would be a stretch to say that when Kevin Gausman came to Toronto, he expected to start two games in a World Series — including one with a chance to clinch a title in his working hometown.
But that’s exactly what the Colorado native wanted and precisely the opportunity in front of him when he starts Game 6 of this year’s Fall Classic on Friday at the Rogers Centre.
With the Jays squeezing a 3-2 vice on the best-of-seven series with back-to-back wins in Los Angeles on Tuesday and Wednesday, it’s a huge opportunity for the franchise and its de facto ace.
“When I signed here, I always felt this could be a possibility,” Gausman said. “Maybe it took us a little longer, but I always believed there was this type of potential.”
