Former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb Thursday claimed that the Communists would not return to power in the northeastern state even in 2088.

Speaking to reporters at his residence in Agartala, Deb criticised the Opposition CPI(M)’s ‘support’ for a Tripura-based woman content creator who was arrested for allegedly abusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi , among others.

The content creator, identified as Madhabi Biswas, was arrested on Sunday, produced before the court on Monday and remanded in three-day police custody.

CPI(M) politburo member Jitendra Chaudhury, former chief minister Manik Sarkar and others have condemned her arrest and said it was an attack on free speech.
