SHREVEPORT, La. — Opera is taking center stage in classrooms and community spaces across the ArkLaTex, thanks to the Shreveport Opera’s Resident Artist Program — and the group is gearing up for a special performance on Saturday.

Known as the Shreveport Opera Xpress (SOX), the program features emerging professional singers and pianists who spend the season training, performing and touring the region.

In addition to appearing in mainstage productions, the artists travel to over 100 schools, senior centers and community venues, where they introduce opera to new audiences and perform children’s operas with messages about acceptance, diversity and anti-bullying.

The resident artists also receive coaching from industry professionals, housing, travel support and weekly church cantor positions
