CHARLOTTE, N.C. — It's been a week of extremely beneficial rain across the Carolinas. In Charlotte, we've picked up 2.22 inches of rain since Sunday afternoon.

However, it wasn't enough to create a big change in our local drought conditions. The latest drought monitor shows no change across the Piedmont.

This is likely because droughts don't begin or end in a day. It won't take more weeks like this, with areas of rain over multiple days, to get closer to the end.

Other parts of North Carolina and South Carolina saw improvement thanks to the rain, but it was minor.

So what would it take to end the drought? As of Thursday afternoon, Charlotte needs approximately 8.5 inches of rain in a month — or 14.5 inches in three months — to enter full drought termination status, which means getting
