NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — Massive amounts of rainfall set a record in the heart of New York City on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

New York City streets flooded across the five boroughs due to the heavy rains. Some subways were partially suspended as well.

New Yorkers were seen clearing out sewers in a crowded Brooklyn street on Thursday afternoon. Trees were seen on top of vehicles in Queens as well.

Thursday marked a record-breaking day in Central Park, too. The NWS reported that 1.80 inches of rain fell there, which broke the previous record of 1.64 inches set in 1917, according to New York City Emergency Management.

Records date back to 1896.
