LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - On Thursday, experts gathered at the state capitol to advocate for the mental health of mothers and infants.

The Michigan Association of Infant Mental Health hosted the third annual Capitol Day to highlight the mental health needs of new families.

The organization aims to strengthen partnerships with professionals who help families with children under six.

Thursday’s event focused on informing lawmakers on the benefits of more family care.

“It is necessary for them to be the voice that we need, we are here to be that voice, but we need their voice at the state level. We need them to fight on behalf for families and children throughout the state of Michigan,” said Katrina Stewart, CDA Director at Leaps and Bounds Family Services.
