Lucas County Commissioner Anita Lopez will introduce a resolution to provide $1 million in funding to food banks, but she doesn’t believe she has the votes to pass it.
The funding, according to the resolution, would come from the county’s reserves, which had a balance of about $42 million at the start of the year. Ms. Lopez said she drafted the resolution after Commissioner Lisa Sobecki proposed $100,000, which she doesn’t believe is enough.
“If we’re just going to have press conferences so our pictures can be in the paper and the headlines, but we’re not willing to put the money toward it, then I don’t want to be a part of any of those press conferences in the future,” Ms. Lopez said.
The county held a news conference last Monday calling on the state to use its “rainy day” fund — forma
