A pantsless policeman left a judge in a state of disbelief after appearing in his boxers during a Zoom hearing for Detroit’s 36th District Court on Monday, October 27.

A Michigan police officer appeared before a judge at a hearing this week – without wearing any pants.

Livestreamed video shows Detroit’s 36th District Court Judge Sean B. Perkins preparing for court proceedings on Monday, Oct. 27. As the judge introduces parties in a case, the camera zooms to a man, who identifies himself as Detroit Police Department Officer Matthew Jackson.

Video shows Jackson wearing the top portion of his city-issued uniform and a pair of boxers.

In the virtual footage, reviewed by USA TODAY, the judge asks Jackson, “You got some pants on, officer?”

After quickly moving the camera on his computer north of his lower torso, Jackson responds, “No, sir.”

The hearing then proceeds as normal.

Jackson joined the virtual court in connection with a traffic-related case involving drag racing in May, The Detroit News reported. According to the outlet, a female defendant in the case was issued a citation and appeared in court before Jackson joined the online session.

Incident involving officer without pants will be 'appropriately addressed' police chief said

Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison said Oct. 29 that the incident would be "appropriately addressed."

The department did not confirm whether Jackson had been disciplined in connection to the incident. However, Bettison released the following statement on Oct. 30.

"The involved officer's actions are not representative of the professionalism of this department and will be appropriately addressed to maintain the public confidence and efficient operation of this department."

"Our apologies are hereby extended to the judges and staff of the court, as well as anyone else who may have been in attendance during this incident," the statement ends.
