A state agency proposes that Christendom College in Warren County take action and pay a penalty for dumping wastewater into a nearby stream.

The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality recently published a draft consent order that lays out the steps the Catholic college must take to address violations of its state permit for wastewater treatment. The public may provide input to the DEQ on the matter and the draft order through Nov. 5.

The DEQ found Christendom violated its permit by discharging treated sewage and municipal wastes from a treatment plant while concurrently failing to comply with the terms of the permit. Inboden Environmental Services operates the wastewater treatment plant for the college.
