NEOSHO, Mo. — The Newton County Sheriff's Department and other agencies are investigating two fires that occurred Wednesday that authorities said appear to be unrelated.
In one, a women's remains were found. An arrest was made in connection with the other.
A fire was reported about 1:50 p.m. Wednesday at 28252 Highway HH in Newton County. Deputies, working with firefighters from the Midway, Stella and Wheaton fire departments and Newton County Ambulance responded to the scene.
Firefighters found the residence to be fully engulfed when they arrived. They worked most of the afternoon and into the evening to control the fire. After the fire was out, firefighters and the Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Office searched the debris and found the body of a woman. Sheriff's detectives conducted a
