CHEATHAM COUNTY, Tenn. (WSMV) - A search for a missing kayaker ended in tragedy Thursday after the 20-year-old man was found dead.
A chief deputy for the Cheatham County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Thursday afternoon that authorities were searching for an adult male kayaker near the Brush Creek Recreation Area, which is along an offshoot of the river.
Edwin Hogan, emergency management director for Cheatham County, confirmed Thursday evening that authorities had located the kayaker’s remains.

The search for the kayaker started just after 1:30 p.m. when dispatch received a report that one of two people kayaking on the Cumberland River backwater near Brush Creek had gone under and not surfaced, according to Hogan.
